Hi All

We have been informed that we cannot have the Gym on Friday 26th September. This unfortunately means that all Friday players can only arrive at 6.30pm. This will affect all players as we will be managing on 4 courts instead of 6. Please warn players that there will be restricted court time for all players. We plan to equal out court allocation on ability and numbers arriving on that evening. We plan to play games only with scoring to 11. Those that attend until 8.00 will be restricted to one court during Adult session.

CBA Badminton Exam Hall Closure (5th, 12th Nov 2024) - URGENT INFORMATION

Hi All

I am really sorry to let you know we are unable to have the gym or sports hall on the 5th and 12th November due to exams being held at the school. However, we are holding sessions both Tuesday and Friday during half term, and all Tuesday players are invited to attend 6.30 – 7.30 on Friday 8th and 15th November. In addition to these two dates we are unable to have the gym on Friday 8th November (sports hall will be available). Therefore, all players that usually arrive at 6pm should not come until 6.30 on that date.

Please bear with us, we could potentially have a very full hall on the Fridays.

2024/2025 Season

Dear Member

I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all committee members and others that do work behind the scenes to keep our club going.

I do apologise for the disruption due to exams since Easter, we are giving this a lot of thought going forward to find a solution for next year and will keep you posted.

Also, for the progress of our club, I want to discuss below specific matters:

League - We have to plan for next season (September onwards). Any teams we wish to enter into the league have to be done before September. Could I, therefore, ask if you could let me know if you would like to be considered for any team next season?
Peg Board- As with all clubs, ‘the peg board’ usually has issues, and ours unfortunately has had many. We have tried various policies, and we have currently moved to an electronic peg board. This, unfortunately, hasn’t stopped the manual adjustment, as some members have worked out how to manipulate it. In case you haven’t received communication from our Chairman, Jagan, the policy now is, if anyone is found to be unfairly adjusting the next game on, they will be asked to leave the club. At the AGM it was decided to form two groups to avoid too many uneven games. This new format will only be in place for one hour during club night. Some weeks it will be 7.30 to 8.30 and others will be 8.30 to 9.30. This was trialled few weeks, and there was mixed feeling. One group has been selected on ability and the other requiring improvement. Jagan and I are voluntarily coaching the second group if any member requests it. With coaching there is no reason the transition from group B to A isn’t achievable.
BE Registration- Each year I have to register players with Badminton England for insurance purposes. There is a charge to the club for this and forms part of the fees. As Badminton England Registration has to be paid before 1st October to allow us to legally play in the league we are bringing the payment date forward to 1st September 2024 and 1st March 2025. Unless you paid in the first month for the term, you won’t be registered or allowed to play

Club Fees-

Together with BE registration we have court charges and cost for shuttles and other minor costs. Our fees are currently paid 6 monthly at a rate of £25 per month for one evening per week attendance and £35 for two evenings, payable 1st October and 1st April. Club is still committed to keep the current Fee position for one more year. I.e. payment for 1st Sept 2024 and 1st March £150 or £210 (for all new Members).
For existing and regular players, due to the above changes, the first payment will only be for 5 months in 2024 (existing members have already paid for September). Also, a couple of club nights were cancelled due to school exams in the summer. Club therefore deducting £10 for one evening membership and £15 for two-night membership, from the September payment, for existing fully paid members. Therefore, payments will be £115 and £160 for existing members for the first payment for 2024-2025.

A payment should be made by bank transfer to Cambs Badminton Academy. Sort code 52-10-46, Account number 25840045, ensuring you reference payment with your name.

One last request is completion of the membership form below. This is to ensure I have correct details for BE registration, phone contact in case of emergency and correct email address for any updates through the year. In case of an on court emergency could I ask for an alternative phone contact should we need it. A list will be kept in an envelope secured in the box.

2024/2025 Season

Dear Member

I would like to take this opportunity to say what a pleasure it has been to see our club expand and see our junior players improve and enjoy playing and learning. I would like to say a very big thank you to our coaching team. I would also like to thank all the parents that have helped with the running of our very successful Junior Badminton Club. All help is very much appreciated and helps our youngsters improve at a quicker rate and enjoy the experience. If anyone would like to offer their help, please let me know.

Due to our continued success I am receiving requests to join our junior club every week. At Christmas it was evident we were not going to be able to accommodate more players and our waiting list was growing ever bigger. Giving this a lot of thought, from Easter we were able to secure the gym on a Tuesday evening 6.30 to 7.30 and have been lucky enough to have enough voluntary coaches and helpers for this session to now be available for beginners. Unfortunately the school are not able to let us have the main hall for this hour, which would have been ideal as this session is now also at full capacity.

Our coaching pathway is now as follows:

6.30 to 7.30 for beginners on a Tuesday Evening

6.30 to 7.30 for improvers on a Friday Evening

6.00 to 8.00 for advanced players on a Friday Evening

I do apologise for the disruption due to exams since Easter, we are giving this a lot of thought going forward to find a solution for next year and will keep you posted. In view of lost sessions we hope you will accept a £10 reduction on the fees for Sept to Dec term.

We have to plan for next season (September onwards). I would be very grateful if you would confirm the continuance of your son/daughters attendance going forward, to allow me to move players into the correct sessions, allowing more beginners in from the waiting list.

We do not run the junior club during the Christmas holidays, Easter Holidays or summer holidays, but we do run during half terms.

Now for the legal stuff…….

Each year I have to register players with Badminton England for insurance purposes. There is a charge to the club for this and forms part of the fees. Together with this fee we have hefty court charges and shuttles, but thankfully the coaching team and helpers give their time voluntarily, enabling us to keep costs at a minimum. I can confirm we are able to keep our fees at £60 for one hour session and £120 for two hour session per term. This fee should be paid before the new term commences. I.e. end August, end December and end March.

A payment of £60 or £120 should be made by bank transfer per term to Cambs Badminton Academy. Sort code 52-10-46, Account number 25840045, ensuring you reference payment with junior players name.

One last request is completion of the membership form below. This is to ensure I have correct details for BE registration, phone contact in case of emergency and correct email address for any updates through the year. I know many of you have only just filled this out, but every year I have someone who hasn’t received communication due to a changed email address, and it is very important for us to have an emergency number that is correct.
